Teaching

Teaching:

Whether I’m in your town or mine, I’m available for lessons and master classes, in person or online.

In private lessons I cover repertoire and technique from Baroque to contemporary, happily passing on what I have had the privilege of learning from my own master teachers: from Darlene Dugan in high school and college to Alex Murray, Peter Lloyd, Julius Baker and Marcel Moyse in graduate school and beyond, as well as from flutists such as Geoffrey Gilbert or Thomas Nyfenger for whom I played in their master classes.

In my masterclasses I address topics ranging from general music appreciation to topics tailored for specific groups, for example:

  • Discovering and performing with the “it” of music — for flutists /musicians
  • Notation and collaboration — for composers
  • 20th Century Performance practice from Debussy & Varese to Stockhausen &
  • Saariaho — for all musicians and composers
  • The Road Less Traveled : Choosing your personal path — for music business classes or entrepreneurs
